Volvo cars history

Volvo Group began in 1927 when the first Volvo car rolled off the production line at the factory in Gothenburg. Only 297 cars built that year. The first truck, the "Series 1," debuted in January 1928, as a success and attract attention overseas. In 1930, Volvo sold 639 cars, and truck exports to Europe started soon after; car did not become well known outside Sweden until after World War II.

Marine engines have become part of the Group almost as long as the truck. Pentaverken, founded in 1907, was acquired in 1935. In early 1929, however, U-21 outboard engine was introduced. Manufacturing continued until 1962.

The first bus, named B1, was launched in 1934, and aircraft engines added to a range of products developed in the early 1940s.

On January 28, 1999 Volvo Group sold the business area of Volvo Car Corporation to Ford Motor Company for U.S. $ 6.45 billion, with the resulting group is now largely set on commercial vehicles. On January 2, 2001, Renault véhicules Industriels (which includes Mack Trucks, Renault shares but not in Irisbus) has been sold to Volvo, which renamed it Renault Trucks in 2002. As a result, the former mother company Renault Volvo AB is the largest shareholder with a 20% share (in shares and voting rights).

The last ten years the company has experienced rapid growth in the service area with, for example, financial solutions that support the sales of the manufacturing business units. In 2006, AB Volvo acquired from Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., 13% of the shares in the Japanese truck manufacturer Nissan Diesel, and became the main shareholder. In 2007, Volvo Group took full ownership of Nissan Diesel to expand the Asian pacific market expansion.

Volvo cars

Volvo Group is a Swedish supplier of commercial vehicles such as trucks, buses and construction equipment, drive systems for marine and industrial applications, aerospace components and financial services. Although Volvo was founded in 1915 as a subsidiary of AB SKF, a Swedish ball bearing manufacturer, car manufacturers was formally established on April 14, 1927, when the first car rolled out of factories in Hisingen, Gothenburg.

Volvo means "I roll" in Latin, conjugated from "volvere" (cp the ball bearing producer SKF). The name Volvo was originally registered in May 1911 as a separate company within SKF AB and registered as a trademark with the intent to be used for a special series of ball bearings, but this idea was used only for short periods and SKF decided to use "SKF" as a trademark for all products bearing.

In 1924, Assar Gabrielsson, an SKF Sales Manager, and Engineer Gustav Larson, the founder, decided to start construction of a Swedish car. Their vision is to create a car that can withstand tough and rough roads Swedish cold temperatures. This has been a feature of Volvo's products since then.

Company AB Volvo had no activities until August 10, 1926, after a year of preparations involving the production of ten prototypes, set up to implement the car manufacturing business in the SKF group. AB Volvo was introduced on the Stockholm stock exchange in 1935 and SKF then decided to sell its shares in the company. Volvo was delisted from the NASDAQ in June 2007, but still listed in the Stockholm exchange.

The first series produced Volvo, Volvo OV 4, left the factory on April 14, 1928 became the official date of founding of Volvo.

In 1999, Volvo sold the car division to Ford's Volvo Cars for $ 6.45 billion. Volvo trademark is now divided between Volvo AB, in which he used on heavy vehicles and units of Ford, where he used the car. Ford decided to put the Volvo Cars in the market in 2008. In 2009, Ford Motor Company announced that sales for China's Geely motor manufacturer is likely to be completed in 2010.
