Volvo cars

Volvo Group is a Swedish supplier of commercial vehicles such as trucks, buses and construction equipment, drive systems for marine and industrial applications, aerospace components and financial services. Although Volvo was founded in 1915 as a subsidiary of AB SKF, a Swedish ball bearing manufacturer, car manufacturers was formally established on April 14, 1927, when the first car rolled out of factories in Hisingen, Gothenburg.

Volvo means "I roll" in Latin, conjugated from "volvere" (cp the ball bearing producer SKF). The name Volvo was originally registered in May 1911 as a separate company within SKF AB and registered as a trademark with the intent to be used for a special series of ball bearings, but this idea was used only for short periods and SKF decided to use "SKF" as a trademark for all products bearing.

In 1924, Assar Gabrielsson, an SKF Sales Manager, and Engineer Gustav Larson, the founder, decided to start construction of a Swedish car. Their vision is to create a car that can withstand tough and rough roads Swedish cold temperatures. This has been a feature of Volvo's products since then.

Company AB Volvo had no activities until August 10, 1926, after a year of preparations involving the production of ten prototypes, set up to implement the car manufacturing business in the SKF group. AB Volvo was introduced on the Stockholm stock exchange in 1935 and SKF then decided to sell its shares in the company. Volvo was delisted from the NASDAQ in June 2007, but still listed in the Stockholm exchange.

The first series produced Volvo, Volvo OV 4, left the factory on April 14, 1928 became the official date of founding of Volvo.

In 1999, Volvo sold the car division to Ford's Volvo Cars for $ 6.45 billion. Volvo trademark is now divided between Volvo AB, in which he used on heavy vehicles and units of Ford, where he used the car. Ford decided to put the Volvo Cars in the market in 2008. In 2009, Ford Motor Company announced that sales for China's Geely motor manufacturer is likely to be completed in 2010.
